House for ore crushing and sorting
Earlier there was two older houses for crushing and sorting further to the east. The third was the largest, and was 38 meters long. The building had an open front and several bins inside. 12-16 year old boys sorted ore into A, B and C grades inside the building. The ore was then taken to the smelting plant in Evje. Horses were used for freighting ore from 1872 to 1910. The horses were driven up to the front of the building where the ore was loaded into wooden crates, a meter square, each crate holding about 1 ton of ore. Wagons were used in the summer, sledges in the winter. In 1910 the horses were replaced by Langeline cableway, and the young boys were replaced by girls sorting ore on a conveyor belt. The belt was nicknamed “Reima”.
