The oldest office building
Oil storage room 1880-1902
Smithy from 1902
Carbide storage room 1927-1946
From 1880 this was the general and wage payment office. Wages were paid through a hatch in the wall, with the mine workers standing in queue outside. The clerk's bench is still standing. The building was used as smithy from 1910, and is therefore black on the inside. When the carbide lamps arrived in 1910, the building became a storage building for carbide until the closing of the mine in 1946. Storage of oil relates to the oil used in the old mine lamps up to 1914.
