The sloping shaft (inclined shaft) / Alfreds Merry's shaft - 1884 / Mine lift (the old mine)
The sloping shaft was named Alfred Merry's shaft during the 1O years the British firm of H. H. Vivian Co. leased the Flåt mining operation from A/S Evje Nikkelverk.
The lift tower was 18 m tall. The hoist wheel in top of the tower was turned by a 1666 m long cable connected to a water wheel in Oddefossen (Odde water fall). The sloping shaft had double rails which enabled one wagon to go up while another went down. The wagons were built at an angle of 45 degrees.
